But to me, (as an author myself of a recently published novel in the same genre) I take my hat off to the author because we can really feel each of the character's thoughts and emotions as they go through divorce or betrayal or whatever it is AND it is fascinating how she brings it all together in one house in Nantucket where a woman of courage and character unwittingly gathers tenants for room rentals that shape and change each other's lives in ways that feel compelling and real. My Husband Ran Off with the Nanny and God Do I Miss HerAuthor jane Green hits a home-run in The Beach House. I give the book a ten. The novel is ideal for the kind of reader who adores romantic intrigue; complex but exciting interwoven stories that deal with basic human flaws and love and motives and sadness -- truly -- Jane Green covers it all and manages to spin the stories and interweave them in such a way that it is one of those books that you don't want to put down and you don't want to end. If you are a reader who wants action such as violence or a "big movie screen"story line, this is not that kind of book. Buy it for sure. Respectfully submitted, Tracy Davis author of MY HUSBAND RAN OFF WITH THE NANNY AND GOD DO I MISS HER
I forced myself to read the entire book and after finishing felt I had wasted my time and just watched a really predictable television soap opera with too many plots and absolutely no substance.
As a huge fan of Jane Green I was very excited to read this novel, and overall was not disappointed. While reading there are many occasions which the transition from character story line to character story line are too quick and sharp, causing the reader to re-read and slow down to understand what line they are now following. Her character development was excellent and the story entertaining. This story follows the tradition of her many other great novels.Areas which did bother me about the novel were the disjointed transitions between storylines and the quick and predictable ending. Each story line holds its own within the entire novel, but unfortunately towards the ending, the reader can expect and feel the next event and as such the conclusion of the book. Lastly, with the majority of the story lines it felt as if Green realized she needed to end the book and they were completed by the quick and easy route, in some cases not providing the characters their just ending.Again, excellent story and definitely worth a read, but just prepare for a lackluster ending.
The story wasn't too dramatic and kept me interested the whole time. It usually takes me a while to read a book, but this book was just GREAT. The end of the story brought me to tears - just the wonderful outlook of life. If you haven't read it, it's a must. Especially if you love Jane's stories like I do.
This was unlike any other Jane Green book. I have been a Jane Green fan for years.ever since reading Jemima J. I was not prepared for sad, serious. I have read all of her novels. She's supposed to be funny, light hearted. This book is NOT the reason I read Jane Green. I was very disappointed.
